A productive week in G6 as we push on with our trio of exciting inquiries. In maths, we have been exploring multi-step problems (see Seesaw for an example). In Literacy, we have been identifying the features of a persuasive text and then starting to try and write our own persuasive text. In our UOI, we are looking at the journey we have been on so far in our lives, and what might come next, what might our influence and legacy be as we move through the different stages of our lives (more information in this week’s Seesaw).

Next Week

Maths – We will be…

  • Exploring the 24 hour Clock
  • Inquiring into different time zones
  • Continuing multi step worded problem strategies
  • Reviewing our measurement pre assessments
  • Mental Maths (home learning).

Literacy and Unit of Inquiry (very closely connected in the coming weeks) – We will be…

  • Watching and analysing different persuasive Ted Talks
  • Recognising the features and skills used in a successful Ted Talk
  • Brainstorming ideas for our own Ted Talks
  • Book Clubs

Also, next week we will be doing a CAT 4 assessment with the students (over 3 sessions) to measure their cognitive and reasoning abilities. There is no preparation or revision needed for this, as the test will be purposefully using images, texts and ideas that have not been explored in any classes.

Graduation Cap and Sash

If you would like your child to own the hat and sash as a souvenir the cost is 1.5 Rial. If you do not want your child to keep these items, then they will be allowed to use them on the day and then they will be returned to school, and used for future grade level.

I think as a parent group you have decided that you would also like to add a gown. If that is the consensus and everyone agrees, then this is a nice addition.

VERY IMPORTANT DATE

Grade 6 Graduation = Tuesday 2nd June – 8.15am to 9am in the Mazoon. PLEASE put this date in your calendar and ensure that you can attend. We have put it early in the day so that families can attend before going to work. Last year all students had at least one family member to witness their graduation, we would very much like for the same level of parent attendance this year too!

Have a great weekend,

Grade 6 Team
