Dear Parents,

I hope you are having a wonderful week. Our music lessons have been exceptionally productive over the past few days, as our classrooms have transformed into collaborative rehearsal spaces focused on our upcoming performance milestones.

Developing Approaches to Learning (ATL) Skills As all grades begin preparing their specific class songs for the Summer Concert, we are moving beyond mere technical practice to develop essential Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills:

  • Collaboration Skills: Students are working in diverse ensembles, learning to listen actively to one another, provide constructive feedback, and negotiate artistic decisions to achieve a unified sound.
  • Self-Management (Organization & Resilience): Preparing for a concert requires disciplined practice and the ability to manage time effectively. Students are learning to overcome technical hurdles and persevere through challenging musical passages.
  • Communication Skills: Through music, students are exploring non-verbal communication, learning how to convey emotion and intent to an audience and their fellow performers.

Weekly Music Progress:

  • Grade 7: Concert Repertoire – Our students are making great strides with their group performances. While some groups are still refining their arrangements to suit their technical strengths, the collaborative spirit is high as they finalize their song choices.
  • Grade 8: Repertoire Confidence – The Grade 8 students continue to show great confidence. They are now focusing on the nuances of dynamics and articulation, ensuring their class song has a professional and polished feel.
  • Grade 9: Composition and Performance – Creativity is peaking in Grade 9. As they integrate their original composition ideas into their concert set, they are demonstrating excellent critical thinking and creative application.
  • Grade 10: Concert Focus – In addition to their focus on upcoming academic assessments, Grade 10 is bringing a sophisticated level of leadership to their concert rehearsals. Their dedication to perfecting their final MYP performance is evident in every session.

Thank you for your continued support of our music program.
