This was perfect timing for Grade 1 who have started a new Unit about ideas being shared through stories and tales. We have been thinking about stories, saying which are our favourite stories, making up our own stories and, of course, sharing stories. Children love listening to stories and we have been sharing some traditional tales which have similar format and repetitive style to help children recognise story structure and re-tell through acting, drawing or saying.
There have been many activities for Book Week. The children were very excited to look for Wally in the playground who is a character from the books ‘Where’s Wally?’ Members of staff had a Wally sticker on them and students spent the whole playtime excitedly trying to find 6 Wallys!
We had a lovely Reading Buddies session with Grade 4B where they brought selected stories to share and read to our students. Children really enjoyed listening to stories read by older students and were able to swap and have several books read to them by different students. Grade 4 students were very patient and also discussed the story or asked Grade 1 questions to extend their learning. This was a beautiful session so we hope to be able to do it again.
Please continue to support reading and love of books at home. Children have access to Raz Kids and there are many online story sites.
Enjoy the long weekend!
