This was a special week, with Student-Led Conferences taking place on both Wednesday afternoon and today. Thank you to the many of you who were able to attend with your child(ren) and support them in sharing their interests, passions, and learning spaces. As you could see, this was a very meaningful experience for them, and they were proud and excited to take on the role of teacher for a short time.
This week, we are pleased to share photographs of the children engaged in a memorable end-of-unit celebration that also served as a rich learning experience. Throughout this inquiry, we explored a variety of Earth’s resources, including soil, trees and plants, animals, air, clay, and water. We learned that these resources change over time and, importantly, that not only people depend on them, but other living things as well.
In our final line of inquiry, we focused on the importance of caring for and sharing these resources. The children understand that air can become polluted (or dirty) and that it is important to keep it clean for ourselves and for other living things. They also learned that trees are a vital resource for both animals and people. For example, trees help to add oxygen to the air we breathe and keep it clean and healthy. With this in mind, we took action by planting four trees. Working in small groups, the children helped the gardeners plant the trees in a green space near the ECC playground. We hope these trees will grow big and strong, providing habitat for animals, shade for both animals and people, and contributing to clean, healthy air on our campus. Special thanks to our gardeners and their company, Sohar Tech Park, for providing us with the saplings and for helping us make it happen!
To mark the occasion, each group also buried a small time capsule with their tree. Each capsule contains the children’s names and, for fun, a statement about what they would like to be when they grow up. Perhaps one day, future students will discover these time capsules and learn about our class. The photos below show the children enjoying this special experience.
A reminder that next Monday, 20th April, we will be visiting Al Sanger Beach for some fun time playing in the sand and paddling at the edge of the water. Please send your child to school wearing their swimsuit, and with one bag containing a towel, change of clothes and their snack (lunch should be packed separately). We will leave school at 8:30am. Many thanks!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend
