We have tried to focus our attention to Maths this week as we need to repeat and reinforce to learn and remember things. Continuing with place value, we use different methods and activities to understand that where the number is denotes it’s value. As we learn both English and Arabic at ABIS, we have directional challenges that make this, like writing, harder so we try again and again to practice new learning!
Students also had fun in an, almost, silent lesson. I decided we would make a cylinder to learn more about 3D shapes but would only demonstrate the steps, not speak them! In this way, children had to look carefully at what I was doing and follow each step. Fortunately, some children spoke to others as I did my actions to make it easier and they always try to help the friend next to them if that friend needs help.
Lastly, reading groups continue to be enthusiastic about looking and talking about their books and trying to read their books or do their reading words together. They like to take turns to be the group leader and it is another step towards being more independent. I was also happy to see the children start counting together this morning. I had put the 100 mat in the centre of the carpet intending to use it for an activity and a group of students began counting to 100 so others joined in- great independent learning action!
