This week in Grade 1, we spent time reflecting on the goals the students set for themselves earlier in the school year. Goal setting is an important part of our learning, as it helps students think about their progress and what they would like to improve. It has been wonderful to see how much the children have grown and developed over the past months. Next week, the students will set new goals that they will continue working on for the rest of the school year.

In our Unit of Inquiry How We Organise Ourselves, students are exploring the idea that a group of people is organized to meet the needs and wants of its members. Through discussions and activities, they are learning how people in communities work together and help one another. During this learning, we also focused on being balanced and reflective, thinking about our learning and how we can continue to grow.

In math, students are developing strategies to help them memorise addition and subtraction facts. We also continued exploring 2D and 3D shapes by identifying their features and recognising them in the world around us.

During literacy, students are learning that writing is a process. They practised proofreading their work to find and fix mistakes, helping them become more independent writers. In word study, we focused on blends and the diphthongs ou and ow.

We are proud of the students’ effort, reflection, and enthusiasm for learning this week.
