For our first week of the Ramadan schedule we have been so busy with the shortened lesson time as I’m sure your child has mentioned to you. We have squeezed in quite a lot over our 4 day week!
For our UOI, we have been reflecting on our learning and how we have worked in teams to produce a performance. We have thought about the ways we performed and how we can make changes to improve our performances. This has been all a part of our creative process. We have also performed a second Readers’ Theatre and the confidence level has certainly risen with all students in their presentations. They worked on projecting their voices and taking on the characters of a play. All the students have been excited about presenting their performances – if your child has their script, you could ask them to perform their part for you.
For maths this week, we have taken a break from adding and subtracting two-digit numbers (we will continue practising numeracy through mental maths sessions) and have begun our time unit. The students all took a pre-assessment so we know our understanding and what we need to learn. Please see the family letter about time below:
Our literacy this week has focused on new letter patterns and the sounds they can make. We have met in our reading groups to develop our comprehension skills and build our reading fluency. We have practised handwriting, thinking about where each letter begins and how it is formed. We listened to a story in which we could hear how the author expressed their feelings by showing, rather than telling. The students are working to understand how to write showing their feelings, ie ‘I had a big smile on my face’, rather than telling, ie ‘I was happy’.
We will begin our new UOI next week, please see the flyer for Sharing the Planet below:
