This semester we are changing our approach to “Drop Everything and Read” Tuesday across Secondary. We are encouraging students to engage in reading about current events (news) to broaden and deepen their knowledge of the world around them.
Students are encouraged to:
- listen to current events podcasts like CNN10 or Global News Podcast (BBC)
- read online newspapers e.g. Oman Observer
- read online news magazines that deal with global issues, Time For Kids (Grade 7) and National Geographic/National Geographic Kids
Grade 8 students started it this week and will be keeping a news journal reflecting on the events of the day or week. Some students came prepared and some did not. Those who did not watched segments from CNN10 of 10 January on events pertaining to climate change and astronomy.
