This week in Grade 1, we moved into the finding out stage of our “How the World Works” unit by exploring what Earth is made of. Through hands on sorting activities, students identified and classified land, air, and water, and shared where they notice each of these in their world. We also began our writing journey by starting with what we know best – ourselves, our school, and what we do on the weekend. Students drew pictures and are learning to match their drawings with words and labels. Throughout these experiences, they are growing as thinkers who notice and make connections, and as inquirers who ask questions, explore, and share their ideas with confidence.
