In our Unit of Inquiry, children explore sensory bins with leaves, rocks, flowers, and sand. They look closely, touch gently, and sometimes smell the items, then describe what they notice using simple words like rough, smooth, soft, hard, light, heavy, and fragrant. This activity builds their Approaches to Learning thinking skills as they sort and compare, make careful observations, and explain their ideas with reasons. As inquirers, they ask curious questions, and reflect on what they learned. Our goal is for every child to grow in confidence using clear vocabulary, to think carefully and to enjoy discovering the characteristics of natural materials in a safe and calm way that supports English language development.
