Good afternoon,
This week we thought we would share some photographs of outdoor play sessions that have taken place on different days so far this school year. Outdoor play is a vital part of early childhood, supporting learning and development across many areas. When playing outside, children have opportunities for exploration, discovery, and the development of a wide range of skills and positive attitudes.
On climbing apparatus, children build balance, coordination, and gross motor strength in their arms and legs. They also gain confidence and resilience as they test their bravery. Climbing encourages problem-solving and perseverance, as children decide where to place their hands and feet and plan how to move up, down, or sideways.
During imaginative games outdoors, children practise social skills such as turn-taking, sharing, and empathy. They strengthen communication and collaboration as they create and extend play, negotiate roles, and share ideas. Many outdoor games also involve running, which develops stamina, determination, and a sense of enjoyment in physical activity.
Spending time outside also connects children with the natural world. Observing changes in trees and plants over time, or discovering birds and insects, fosters curiosity, wonder, and a questioning mindset. Children develop positive attitudes such as attentiveness, care for living things, and an eagerness to explore and learn.
As the weather begins to cool, we look forward to spending more time outdoors and taking advantage of our beautiful campus. You might also like to ask your child about what they noticed outside or encourage them to explore the natural world together at home—perhaps looking for changes in plants or spotting birds and insects in your garden, if you have one.
Wishing you all a good weekend. Kind regards,
The KG1 Team
