It was fantastic to meet so many of you at our Parent Information Evening on Tuesday. Thank you so much for coming along and supporting our Grade 7 students as they navigate a brand new programme. It is crucial that we build these relationships, and work together to ensure we are  giving all of our students the best chance of success in the MYP.

This week has been a bit more settled as students are learning to navigate the new spaces and routines, and their self-management skills are improving all the time as they have to remember to take ALL of their materials with them and have their iPads fully charged every day!

This week students were introduced to a brand new component of their learning: Service as Action. (SA) This ensures that not only are students developing academically, but also learning to be caring members of the community. The IB highlights service as action as a core part of the MYP, fostering student growth through meaningful community engagement and reflection. Grade 7 students have a specific Learning Objective and timeline to adhere to which you can see below:

Grade 7 – Service as Action (SA)

Timeline

  • 1 Sept. Project setting.
  • 11 Sept. Check 1 – you should show evidence of your progress, the project MUST be in Managebac.
  • 9 Oct. Check 2 – you should show evidence of your progress, reflection is added to Managebac.
  • 13 Nov. Check 3 – you should show more evidence of your progress and do a further reflection.
  • 11 Dec. Final check. The project is finished. Final evidence and reflection is in Managebac.

Semester 1 Learning Objective: Undertake challenges that develop new skills.

Description: You try something that is new, and learn new skills/abilities. By doing this type of SA activity, you will challenge yourself by doing something that you have never done before. Trying new things can push us out of our comfort zone and we will learn more skills/abilities.

Possible activities: Sports teams (something you’ve never tried/are weak in), Design/Art competitions, Student Council, Mentoring, Leadership roles, School Band.

Wishing everyone a relaxing long weekend, and look forward to seeing the students return to school on Monday 8th September.

Still smiling!
