Dear families of KG1 students,
The first week of KG1 has flown by, and what a lovely start it has been! We are so proud of how quickly the children are beginning to settle — exploring their new classroom, learning routines, getting to know their teachers, and making the first steps towards new friendships. As the weeks progress, they will grow more confident and comfortable within their school ‘family’, helping to shape our classroom into a space that feels truly their own and finding reassurance in the familiar expectations and rhythm of our days together.
This week has been all about getting to know one another. Through songs and games, we have been learning each other’s names, while also exploring a range of resources and learning about the different areas inside and outside. It is important to us that the children feel the classroom is truly theirs and take pride in it. With this in mind, we will spend time in the first few weeks creating art and other work that allows the children to make their mark on their new space. We began with a ‘firework art’ project, where the children dipped tubes (snipped at one end to create a fan-like effect) into paints and printed them onto paper. Each child produced an individual piece, which we have displayed together as one large collective artwork at the entrance to our classroom. We hope this colourful display will begin to proudly announce the space as belonging to the children.
Looking ahead to next week, we will begin focusing on recognising and naming emotions. The children will also be invited to draw the first of their monthly self-portraits, an activity we will return to regularly throughout the year. We will spend time reading together to support the development of early pre-reading skills, and we will continue to create artwork that helps make the classroom feel like their own.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
Warm regards,
Kristina, Buthina and Rahma
