Good afternoon,

We hope all our KG1 families enjoyed the Eid holiday and the extended weekend!

This was, of course, a very short week with only three days. The children were excited to deliver the beautiful thank-you cards they created last week to members of our school community: Mr Shreebash, the gardener; Mr Manik, our custodian; Ms Amina, our nurse; Mr Sekar, who looks after the pool and farm animals; Mr Mahmood, one of our bus drivers; and Mr Mohammed, our security guard. All of these adults were delighted to receive a card and to be shown appreciation by ABIS’s youngest community members.

This week in mathematics, we continued exploring simple 2D shapes by identifying and naming them and discussing their properties. The children played shape bingo, read books about shapes, took part in a fun, active game where they ran to the shape being called out, and experimented with creating shapes using lollipop sticks and pipe cleaners. We are finding that children are now regularly pointing out shapes they spot in the environment!

In literacy, we continued exploring the connection between illustrations and stories by challenging the children to match a page of text from a picture book, read aloud by the teacher, to its corresponding picture. Over the past few weeks, this pre-literacy work has helped the children understand that illustrations not only represent the text but often add extra meaning to the story or narrative.

Next week marks the final week of the school year! We will be taking time to talk with the children about their upcoming move from KG1 to KG2, giving them a sense of what to expect and a chance to ask questions in order to make the process as smooth as possible.

Throughout the week, we will be sending home artwork and any spare clothing. As mentioned earlier, our small in-class end-of-year celebration will take place on Tuesday, 17th June. Please ensure any party food arrives at school by 11:00 a.m. on this day, so we have enough time to enjoy some games, eat together, and perhaps relax with a short movie.

Wishing everyone a good weekend,

Kristina, Buthina and Rahma
