Dear families,
It was a busy and exciting week—starting with our Open Classrooms on Sunday (it was lovely to see so many of you!) and ending with our mini-performance in this afternoon’s assembly. In between, the children engaged in a range of meaningful learning experiences.
As you know, last week three groups of children visited some of the six members of the ABIS community we’ve been learning about. This week, the remaining three groups had their turn to visit and help out the three other community members. One group went to see Mr Mahmood, one of our school bus drivers. He showed us where the engine is and how he checks the oil. We were all surprised to learn that in his bus, the engine is inside the bus, right next to the driver’s seat! Mr Mahmood explained how he makes sure everyone is wearing their seatbelt while the bus is moving. The children helped him by laying out the seatbelts on each seat, ready for the children who would ride the bus home later. Before we left, Mr Mahmood turned off the engine so the children could each have a turn sitting up high in the driver’s seat!
Another group visited Mr Hussein, our security guard. He showed the children how he monitors the school grounds using the camera system and let them each take a turn checking and zooming in on the screens to make sure everything was safe. They also practised giving out a visitor’s pass and calling Ms Eiman in the office to let her know someone had arrived—just like Mr Hussein does.
The final group visited Ms Amina, our school nurse. Since she was running low, she asked the children to help her make new ice packs by carefully filling rubber gloves with water and placing them in the freezer. The children enjoyed the activity and loved helping in such a practical way.
In addition to our community visits, this week the children also created imaginative stories inspired by picture prompts and discussion, used shapes to make interesting pictures, and practised identifying, completing and creating their own repeating patterns using loose parts.
Thank you so much for your continued support -we wish you a restful weekend!
Warm regards,
Kristina, Buthina, and Rahma
