This week, our class delved into the themes of honesty, respect, responsibility, and consideration. We were fortunate to have a Grade 10 student speak to us about the importance of honesty. Our discussions revolved around what it means to be respectful and considerate, and the responsibilities students have both at home and at school. In literacy, we focused on the silent ‘e’ to form long vowel ‘a’ sounds, reviewed our own writing for clarity and coherence, and emphasized selecting books that appropriately match our reading levels. In math, we explored various subtraction strategies and began our introduction to telling time, starting with the hour. Our inquiry into understanding our school community deepened with a visit to the Grade 3 mini museum and an insightful interview with Mr. Manik, our custodian.

Next week promises to be exciting as we plan to visit a supermarket to apply our skills in a real-world setting. We will continue our literacy focus on the silent ‘e’ for long vowel ‘i’ sounds (hid – hide, rid- ride, kit-kite) and expand our math exploration to telling time to the half-hour.

As part of our ongoing unit, we will be engaging in a show and tell activity over the next two weeks. During this period, each student is invited to present a specific responsibility they hold. They will show their classmates what this responsibility entails and explain why it is an important aspect of their daily life. This activity aims to foster a deeper understanding of personal duties and the impact they have on our communities. A detailed schedule will be provided shortly.
