Dear Parents,

This week, we have been busy exploring many aspects of Omani life and culture as part of ABIS’s Oman Week. With activities planned and organized by Ms. Buthaina and Ms. Rahma, the children engaged in a variety of fun and educational experiences, including:

  • Omani Flag Craft: The children used ribbons in the colors of the Omani flag to create a kind of ‘magic wand’ and learned what each color of the flag represents.
  • Pottery Painting: They painted locally made pots after learning about where clay comes from and how potters  in Oman transform it into useful or decorative items.
  • Camel Fun: The children got up close to a real camel, learned about its uses in Oman, created camel handprint art and had the opportunity to try camel milk, if they wished to do so.
  • Date Sweet Making: On Wednesday, they engaged in some food preparation. Children used date paste to roll small balls and covered them in red, white or green shredded coconut (as in the Omani flag) to take home to share with their families. We also talked about the date palm and its uses.
  • Picture Frames: Today (Thursday), they started decorating picture frames by painting them with glue and sprinkling with sand. The frames will be completed next week after our beach trip! Also today the children were very excited to be able to give and receive sweet treats to their friends for the occasion of Qaranqasho. All treats have been sent home with the children!

You can catch glimpses of this special week in the photos below.

Upcoming Field Trip to Al Sanger Park Beach We are excited about our beach trip next Wednesday, 19th February. We will leave school at 9am promptly. Please ensure that your child is wearing his or her swimsuit and shoes appropriate for the beach. Please also make sure that he/she brings a bag containing a towel, water bottle, change of clothes and snack. Lunch should be packed separately as the children will eat snack when we return to school.

Assembly Performance Next Thursday Next Thursday, there will be an assembly featuring performances from KG1 to Grade 2. Our class is excited to be performing a dance/movement piece they have been learning with Mr. Mino during music lessons. Details:

  • Date: Thursday, 20th February
  • Time: Assembly will begin at 8:15am in the Mazoon (Please ensure your child is at school by 8am so as not to miss out.)
  • KG1 Performance: This will be around five minutes long and will be followed by performances from KG2, G1, and G2

We warmly invite you to join us and support the children as they take to the big stage!

We wish you all a very good weekend. Kind regards,

Kristina, Rahma and Buthaina
