During the last week of our Earth Unit under the theme of How the World Works, we have been exploring some natural disasters.
Students are always fascinated by earthquakes and volcanoes but have extended their research and thinking skills by watching videos and reading information. Then, they worked collaboratively to build a town with structures of different shapes and sizes. We filmed the student-made quake (table-shake!) and students could see in the slow motion playback which structures fell and how the different buildings were affected. This helped them to understand how these disasters change the Earth and affect the environment and people too. After this they rebuilt their structures to try and make them stronger and more earthquake resistent.
Students worked collaboratively to build a volcano and will complete the town at the base today before doing an experiment to see how an eription occurs and then record the effct on the town below! Update on Seesaw as usual.
Happy weekend to all!
