Good afternoon families of KG1 students,
It is time for the winter break and what a busy and fun-filled few months it has been since we began the school year in August. We have seen so much growth and change in our students. We are so proud of the learning that has already taken place and are excited to see what the rest of the year has in store for our youngest learners.
This week was, as expected, a busy one with Sports Day earlier in the week and a whole school assembly to end with today. Thank you very much to all those who were able to make it to support and cheer on the children as they took part in the various sporty activities on Tuesday. We were impressed with how they were able to engage in each game; it was clear that their practise in PE lessons with Ms Nuria paid off!
One fun literacy activity this week was linked to one of the class’s favourite books, The Book With No Pictures. This book, exactly as the title suggests, has no illustrations but is an extremely popular book in our class because, as the book says, “the person reading the book has to say” exactly what the words say and the books is full of silly words and noises. The children love hearing the teacher have to read things out loud like “I am a monkey” and “My head is made of blueberry pizza.” and a special favourite, “My best friend in the whole wide world is a hippo named Boo Boo Butt!” Since the book has no pictures, we asked the children if they could act as illustrator for one page, and draw a ‘robot monkey’. They used their imaginations to do this, and we ended up with some creative illustrations! We sent this work home, so you should have already seen your child’s interpretation of a ‘robot monkey’.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish all families a wonderful three week break and we look forward to seeing the children again on the first day of school, in the new year -Sunday, 12th January.
Warm regards,
Kristina, Buthaina and Rahma
