Weekly Photos (photos will be shared on Sunday due to our TA being unwell) Here
The Unit of Inquiry, Where We Are in Place and Time has been very engaging and exciting for everyone involved. We are meeting in our groups at least three times a week to work on our Research Skills. Our groups consist of students from both classes, 2A and 2B. Today, we looked at our specific biomes and began researching the climate of their biome. The biomes include; Tundra, Temperate Forest, Taiga, Hot Desert, Cold Desert, Rainforest, Grassland, and the Savanna. Please ask them what facts they remembered about their biome climate. We are learning about facts and opinions. It is important the students know that when doing research they are looking for facts not opinions. Informative text teaches us about facts.
In English we have been continuing our studies on Informative Texts. This week we read an article about Adobe Homes. Together we found four facts about Adobe homes from the article. This skill is important in all aspects of their learning. They will need to know how to find facts when reading Informative Texts. We have continued reviewing nouns and verbs while learning about adjectives. Next week, we will have a short assessment where students must identify adjectives in sentences. They will also need to identify the noun the adjective describes. Please practice using adjectives at home.
In Math we are moving on to temperature, months of the year, and symmetry. During our morning routine we repeat the months of the year and we will have two months for every spelling test until we have completed all twelve months. Last week’s spelling test included November and December. Next week’s spelling test will include September and October. Temperature will take place daily after the Winter Break. I am introducing it now through their UOI projects when we research climates. After the break we will look at the temperature of Sohar in the morning and afternoon. Every student will have a chance to tell the class what the temperature is using the weather app and an old fashioned temperature gauge. Symmetry will be the focus in math and we create symmetrical patterns and drawings. Symmetrical shapes have a special line we call the line of symmetry and if you fold the shape on that line they will match perfectly. We will continue adding up to 100 with and without regrouping. Subtraction from 1-100 will begin shortly.
I have a very important request that I would like to share. If your child is sick please keep them home for the day or send them to school with a mask. If you do not have a mask let your child know that I can provide them with one or the nurse can provide one. We have noticed a surge in fever, colds, flus, and recently nausea. We would really like to end the cycle of sickness going around. With your help and the help of masks we can do that. Thank you!!
