Unit 3, Where We Are In Place and Time has begun. The central idea is “People have different types of houses around the world for certain reasons”. We will be collaborating with classroom 2B. The students have been put in groups of four. Today we completed a KWL chart asking the students to write statements that they know about houses and questions they wonder about houses. It was a productive lesson and students came up with many statements and questions. Students will be working on their research skills, self-management skills, and communication skills. I will add the UOI specifics in pictures below.
For English during this UOI we will working on informative writing. For grammar we have begun working on adjectives while still reviewing nouns and verbs. Our phonics focus is on short vowels, digraphs, and glued sounds. For literacy we will be reading books and articles about houses around the world. We will continue working on Ideas in 6 + 1 Traits for writing, while focusing on details.
In math we will continue reviewing addition with regrouping and working with 2D and 3D shapes. We will introduce measuring temperature of our local climate while also doing research for the UOI projects and looking at the temperature of houses around the world. Students will need to know how to spell the months of the year and the order they are in.

Tonight from 6:00 – 8:00 PM ABIS will be hosting the Community Potluck. Please bring a dish that represents you or just a dish you love.
December 4th from 6:00 – 7:30 PM we have the Primary Winter Concert. I can’t wait to see the students perform their songs they have been practicing.
December 14th the Community Fun Run. This will be a great time where students and families can earn House Points.
December 17th will be the Primary Sports Day.
December 19th we will have a Primary Assembly before we head off to Winter Break.
