This Week in Our Classroom:
This week, our Grade 9 students began their exploration of set theory, focusing on understanding the concepts of union and intersection of two sets. We introduced Venn diagrams as a visual tool to represent these relationships and engaged in hands-on activities where students worked in groups to solve problems involving set operations. The class also discussed real-life examples of sets, such as how different categories of items can overlap or remain separate in everyday situations.
During the online lessons, students used Desmos website because Desmos has a Venn Diagram tool where students can input different sets and immediately see the union, intersection, and complement. This activity allows them to create and manipulate their own diagrams. It’s interactive and lets students visualize how changes in the sets affect the diagram.
