I hope this newsletter finds you and your loved ones doing well. It has been an interesting week filled with in school and online learning experiences for our students, and I am happy to share some updates with you.

Important Announcements:

  • Our school assembly is coming up, and our students have been rehearsing diligently. We look forward to showcasing their hard work and talent. Please mark your calendars for the event on the 24th October.
  • Due to MOE requirements and rain days, we had two days of online learning this week. About half the class was able to join us during our online learning and many students were able to complete the activities on Seesaw. This morning we worked on completing the activities; please check your child’s journal to see what they still might need to complete. They can work on the activities over the weekend.

Celebrations from the Week:
The students have been actively discussing the qualities of the learner profiles. Their engagement and understanding of these important attributes continue to be developed and we will continue discussing how we exhibit these in our daily lives.

Additional Information:

  • Students have been learning the ‘Read to Self’ routine. This includes understanding what it looks like, where they can sit, what it sounds like, and what they should do during this independent reading time.
  • In maths, we had the opportunity to work with in small groups, modeling how to record place value using spinners to generate tens and ones. The class also engaged in place value activities, including generating 2-digit numbers and writing sentences about them in their math notebooks.
  • Students will be recording the number of tens and ones in expanded notation equations in their notebooks. They will also create their own place value problems, using base 10 blocks on a place value mat, and record their work with expanded notation.
  • For developing our English language skills, students have been exploring various resources, such as Seesaw, Nessy, and independent reading, as well as practising their handwriting by focusing on the letter ‘c’. Students have also practised ABC order activities.
  • In our Unit of Inquiry, students have been tasked with creating a detailed floor plan of our classroom, including furniture, doorways, and other important features. They will label the different areas and use a legend to represent items. Once completed, we will work on using prepositions to describe location.

I am grateful for your continued support and partnership in your child’s education. Together, we can ensure that our students thrive and reach their full potential.
