This Week in Our Classroom:

This week, our Grade 8 students delved into the world of scientific notation. We explored how large and small numbers can be expressed in a more manageable form, making it easier to work with measurements in science and beyond. Through hands-on activities, students practiced converting between standard form and scientific notation and applied this knowledge to real-world examples, such as the distance between planets and the size of microscopic organisms.

Student Spotlight:

A big shout-out to Nuraiz for his excellent participation during group discussions. He came up with creative ways to explain the concept of scientific notation to his peers and made sure everyone was on the same page. Great teamwork, Nuraiz!

Looking Ahead:

Next week, we’ll be expanding our understanding of scientific notation by applying it to real-life problems in science and engineering. Students will also begin working on a mini-project where they research extreme measurements in the universe—both large and small—and present their findings using scientific notation.
