Dear Secondary Families
With different academic programmes available throughout the world, I am sometimes asked why we choose to follow the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP). The programme is highly valued worldwide for its rigorous and comprehensive approach to education. It is widely recognized and respected for several reasons:
International Perspective: The IB DP emphasises international-mindedness, promoting an understanding of different cultures and global issues. This global perspective is highly valued in our interconnected world.
Academic Rigour: The program’s challenging curriculum, which includes a wide range of subjects, helps students develop critical thinking, research, and time management skills, preparing them for higher education.
Holistic Education: The IB DP goes beyond academics, focusing on personal development, community involvement, and fostering well-rounded individuals. This holistic approach is appreciated by universities and employers.
High Standards: The IB DP maintains high standards for assessment and evaluation, ensuring that students are held to a globally consistent level of achievement.
Research Skills: The program places a strong emphasis on research and the Extended Essay, helping students develop independent research skills that are valuable in university and beyond.
University Recognition: Many universities around the world actively seek out IB DP graduates due to their proven academic abilities and the well-rounded nature of the program.
Cultural Competence: IB DP students are often multilingual and culturally aware, which is highly valued in today’s multicultural work environments.
International Mobility: The program’s consistency across countries allows for international mobility, making it easier for students to transition between different educational systems.
Critical Thinking: The IB DP promotes critical thinking, a skill highly sought after by employers in a rapidly changing job market.
Diverse Assessment Methods: The program’s diverse assessment methods, including coursework, exams, and oral presentations, help students develop a wide range of skills and competencies.
In summary, the IB DP is well valued worldwide for its commitment to academic excellence, global awareness, and the development of skills that are highly relevant in the 21st century. It prepares students for success in further education and for meaningful contributions to their communities and the world at large. As a school, we are very proud of our Alumni and all that they have already achieved.
I look forward to welcoming our Primary and Secondary Parents to our coffee morning next week on Tuesday 24th September form 8.00 – 9.00 am.
I wish everyone a lovely weekend.
