In Grade 10, we are concluding the summative assessment for Criteria A: Knowing and Understanding as part of our first unit, ‘Utopia’. The objective was to investigate and analyze inspirational buildings and architects using subject-specific language. Students were tasked with creating presentations consisting of at least five slides, with a primary focus on formal analysis, theme, and context. Since our focus is on architecture, the visual elements differ somewhat from painting, emphasizing materials, composition, style, space, proportion, facade, and function. Why is visual analysis important? Because it requires a careful examination of an artwork. Only through thoughtful visual analysis can students gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of their selected work.
