As part of our preparation for the first assessment related to Criteria A: Investigating in the Grade 8 Art class, we reviewed subject-specific art vocabulary through an exercise focused on seeing and describing artwork. Working in pairs, students described a colorful artwork to their partners using only words, focusing on the elements and principles of art. Without seeing the artwork, the partner’s goal was to draw exactly what was described. This process was then repeated with a different artwork. Once all the drawings were completed, they were placed next to the corresponding artwork. The class discussed which drawing best depicted the artwork based on the verbal descriptions and how effectively each student was able to translate those descriptions into drawings. Our next objective is to focus on analyzing artwork.
