This week has been very busy with assessments, preparing for the swimming gala and for this afternoon’s Arabic assembly. The children deserve a relaxing weekend full of fun and family time!

All end-of-year assessments have been completed this week, including all the WIDA (for EAL) assessments by Ms Ays. The students have worked incredibly hard to do their best and the outcomes for their maths and reading assessment outcomes have been shared with them. Next week, I will share their writing assessment outcomes with them.

In writing, some students have been working on publishing their writing and will share these with you, once completed, on Seesaw. In addition to this writing, we have been practising making sentences where the students need to add the words which make sense into a sentence. And, of course, continuing with their phonics and spelling on Nessy.

Ore reading comprehension has focused on answering comprehension questions, reading for accuracy and also using the back-up and reread strategy. Please see the explanation for that below and how you can support your child’s learning at home.

Our maths is moving into subtraction from addition. We have been working on a variety of strategies to use when adding two-digit numbers, ask your child to share one of these strategies with you, you might be surprised! Both mental addition and subtractions strategies are being learned and practised so the students develop fluency and automaticity in solving problems. This will build a foundation for solving more and more complex problems, especially in real life.
