Just like many of you, teachers share your thoughts and moods. Hopefully, we can end the school year without any severe weather disruptions. [Sigh] In any case, please remain safe if any severe weather moves your way. Please take some time to check out and review G6 W32 in Pictures. Students will use these photos to complete their yearbook pages next week. Take some time to guide them to make the best choices.

Transdisciplinary (Language + UoI) Summary

This week in reading, writing and unit of inquiry, students finished analyzing characters within and elements of graphic novels in reading, developing their ideas to create a graphic novel in writing, and deepening their understanding of migration in unit of inquiry. In reading, students finished up a character study about likeable/unlikeable traits, internal/external pressures, and text-to-self/-text/-world connections through a write long, which is due on Sunday morning. In writing, students should finish their own graphic novel to publish, which is due on Sunday morning, in order to celebrate in an artist alley. In unit of inquiry, students added their ideas from a variety of learning engagements to a presentation. Everyone exercised their agency to research a historical nomad or a period in history of migration through risks, challenges, and opportunities for the migrants and their impact(s) on their place of origin and destination.

Mathematics Summary

This week, students built and clarified their understanding of algebra through relationships: addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, multiplication and addition, division and subtraction, and exponents. Here are examples of the progression of lessons this week.

  • z + y – y = z
  • z ⋅ y ÷ y = z
  • 6z = z + z + z + z + z + z
  • 48 ÷ z = 6 or 48 – z – z – z – z – z – z = 0
  • 6z = z + z + z + z + z + z BUT z(to the power of 6) = z ⋅ z ⋅ z ⋅ z ⋅ z ⋅ z

Google Classroom

The entire G6 learning community has completely transitioned to using Google Classroom as the main platform for teaching and learning. Students engage daily with materials, quizzes, assignments, and increased expectations. Invitations were previously sent out, which means that you are most welcome to accept a digital invitation at your earliest convenience.
