This week we have been busy preparing for our student-led conferences and the students have been so excited about sharing their learning with you. I hope that your enjoyed your child’s conference and were able to get an insight into our learning in Grade 2. It was a pleasure to see so many parents engage with their child’s learning.
We have been finishing up our unit on time and have begun working with addition within 100. First we have reviewed place value, using tens and ones and have been focusing in mental maths on bridging 10 to quickly add two numbers together.
We have begun our work on writing a personal narrative. Our current writing will be based on personal experiences and we are using a day at the beach as a starting point. Students have brainstormed what activities they can do at the beach, when they might go to the beach and who they might go with. From generating ideas, the students will begin writing a first draft, then check how they can improve their writing by using more descriptive writing and exciting verbs. Once they are happy with their first drat, they will also check for correct punctuation and grammar. Finally, they will be able to publish their writing. Keep a look our for it on your child’s Seesaw account.
We began our new unit of inquiry with a provocation on Sunday where the students were provided with an array of costumes and props. They explored these for some time – you can see the fun they had in the photos below. Once they had time to dress up and pretend, they formed small groups and created a short skit to perform in front of Grade 2. They did a fabulous job of it!
