Dear Parents and Students,
Good afternoon, I hope you are all well. Welcome to the end of week 31 of our school year. Another busy week this week and thankfully the weather has held off for us. Looking ahead into the forecast, it looks there could be more rain next week so again putting positive thoughts out there that whatever the weather, everyone stays safe.
A big thank you to everyone that was able to make it to our Students Led Conferences. What an Awesome experience they were. It was so great to see our students leading their parents through their learning journey of the year, articulating their goals and highlighting their stage of development and conceptual understanding at the start of the year compartment to where they are now. Student Led Conferences really are a great window into your child’s stage of development and I know that they absolutely loved spending this special time with you talking about what they have been up to at school.
This week for Mathematics, students completed an assessment to gauge their understanding of concepts covered during their Rational Numbers unit as well as continuing to practise their basic facts skills. As a learning experience, students will self assess this before teachers then assess this learning and will document this learning journey through students Google Classroom. Please talk with your students about this to build your understanding of their areas of strength as well as continued focus for development into the future.
This week in Reading, Writing and Inquiry; students have been working on developing their graphic novel in relation to our new Units of Inquiry ‘Climate Change’ and ‘Migration.’ For this they have been reading graphic novels as well as doing a character study looking at character traits, using words to describe these as well as evidencing their claims. Students have also looked at developing their own graphic novel character as well as their story mountain, plot, setting and finally mapping out their story into panels. Students have also looked at defining the terms ‘Migration, immigration’ and ‘Emigration’ with examples and have looked at what Push and Pull factors are in relation to this as well as the Risks, Challenges and Opportunities involved in migration.
