Dear Primary Families,

As I write this message, I am sitting at home, looking out the window at clear skies and beautiful weather. How very different the image was at times this week. I am conscious that I am very fortunate to be in an apartment and area that was impacted in a very minimal way, and I know that for some of our families, that was not the case. I would like to extend my sincere best wishes to all those affected these past days.

I went for a drive yesterday – initially in search of an internet connection at school – and was amazed to see the volume of water in various locations around Sohar. I hope that the cleanup and repair operations are speedy and successful and that we can look forward to a period of more settled weather – and learning – in the coming weeks.

This week our teachers have shared various learning engagements via the different platforms that are used by our students. I know that internet connections have been unstable and that, certainly for some families, priorities have rightly been elsewhere. For those students who have been able to access the material and learning engagements, these provide an opportunity to make use of a range of the skills and dispositions we teach and value so highly.

When we speak about ATLs and Learner Profiles at school, it is because we know their value and level of importance. Self-management skills, thinking skills, and communication skills have been particularly relevant and important these past few days. Similarly, being principled and risk-takers are attributes that will most certainly have been required as students have been asked to complete work with a greater level of independence.

We recognize that this has been a challenging week of learning and we are looking forward to seeing all our students back in school on Sunday morning. Next week we will enjoy our Student-Led Conferences and these will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please check your emails as you will have received a link so that you may sign up to see your child’s homeroom teacher. These SLCs are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your child’s learning, and we will look forward to welcoming you next week.

The final round of ASAs will also begin on Sunday. Please ensure you know which days your child will remain in school and that arrangements have been made for collection at 4:00 pm when ASAs end. Please note that due to SLCs, there are no ASAs on Wednesday.

Have an enjoyable weekend.

Matthew
