Happy Mother’s Day in Oman, we are so happy to have you all as part of our Grade 5 community and hope that you enjoy being celebrated today. Mums, we hope you got a lovely surprise with the wonderful poetry that was written for you today to celebrate your special day! We had a wide range of poetry that was used, from rhyming couplets to haikus, and free verse and acrostic. These poems were written from the heart to express how much your child loves you and we hope you like them!

This week as part of their personal inquiries into ecosystems, students explored animals that are endangered and will be closely looking at the threats to these animals and their habitats, and also the impacts that the loss or introduction of animals can have on certain ecosystems.

In maths we continued to explore perimeter and area, while some students explored distance and volume. In language we continued our poetry unit, looking at the form and function of poetry, and we wrote some group Haiku poems. Students will be relating their poetry to their chosen animals as they reflect on why they chose their particular animal.

Today students started to create their own websites, this will allow them to share their research work into their chosen animal and biome, and it will also give them a platform to share their poetry during this unit. Please see the separate email, which was sent to students (and copied to you) earlier today, about some homework over the weekend.

Hope to see some of you at the ABIS Iftar celebration this evening.

Have a great weekend. Best wishes, Miss Rachel & Ms. Khadija.
