Happy New Year!
As part of jumping into anything and all related to Exhibition, students completed designs. Congratulations to Sheiam for the winning design, which is the featured image this week! Even with further dreams of winter slumber, here’s proof positive in all of the pictures that this week was very productive: G6 W17 in Pictures.
School Events – Important Dates
- Sultan’s Accession = Thursday, January 11, 2024 [publicly observed for His Majesty Sultan Haitham]
- Swimming (PE) = Sundays for girls and Wednesdays for boys
- G3-G6 Assembly = Thursday, January 25, 2024 (Please note students will announce their Exhibition projects to the school community.)
Home Learning – aka Homework
This week, students (and their parents) could access Agency Centers in order to provide a chance for students to exercise their agency and to ensure that all students would not miss out on any learning due to a meeting with a mentor.
Exhibition (or Literacy + UoI) Summary
This week, students decided on the language for their central idea, lines of inquiry, a connection to a UNSDG, and a problem or case study for their Exhibition projects. In order to start researching, students were challenged with an exit ticket to generate three questions related to each line of inquiry. Additionally, all groups reached out to their mentor teacher and all but one group met with them too.
Numeracy Summary
This week, students worked with the ‘flip-it’ method or the ‘invert-and-multiply’ method to calculate division with fractions. Students also reviewed how to transform fractions into decimals in order to begin exploring how mixed numbers can be transformed into decimal numbers and, then, added or subtracted. Please note that we are planning to have a mid-module assessment before the end of next week.
Anything Else
Of course, there are daily suggestions for home learning in Agency Centers. As one important way to better connect school with home, please talk with your child(ren) about their project, their meeting with a mentor, the inquiry process, etc. Mr. Nicholson and I had many ‘proud teacher’ moments because everyone is making great progress.
