Dear Parents and Students,

It is hard to believe that we are ending our first short week back after our December holiday. It feels very refreshing to be back in our learning zone after the break. Continuing with where we left off this week we began by diving into our Exhibition units and have had a number of productive learning engagements this week.

Grade 6 Week 16 in pictures: 2023 2024

Integrated Unit of Inquiry

Exhibition: This week all groups have reached out to their mentors to establish weekly meetings and have begun their research and inquiries in earnest. Please do talk with them about this, they have been doing a great job and have made great progress so far.

Students also completed their designs for the 2024 PYP Exhibition T shirts and voted on which one would be chosen to print. This is our feature image this week.

Congratulations to Sheiam Al Ghaithi for creating the winning design.

Language: This week, students started back with a standardized spelling test  and a writing sample recounting a significant, memorable small moment from their recent holiday. Additionally, students have begun working on their exhibition including writing daily reflections on their progress.

Mathematics:

This week students have continued to work on consolidating the use of the invert or ‘Flip’ and multiply method of solving division problems with fractions. Students also began working with converting fractions into decimals to solve problems.

Homework

Please remember that there is homework every day except over the weekend. It is important that students are reading, writing and doing Maths practice on a daily basis. Homework for the next 6 weeks will be slightly different from the norm as we use the Agency centre to guide this and all homeroom homework is based around students’ PYP Exhibition inquiry. Thank you for supporting this and for sighting and signing this every week.

Important dates to note:

  • No school tomorrow. This day is a public holiday in recognition of His Majesty the Sultan’s Accession Day.
  • There will be a G3-G6 Assembly on the afternoon of Thursday, January 25, 2024. Students will announce their Exhibition projects to the school community.

Worth Repeating:

Please remember…

As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincere regards,

Your partners in learning.
