Year-to-Date: 1,890; December 2023: 71.1; Last Week: 45.5

I completed a run last week that completely drained my energy yet revitalized my imagination for my abilities. I set out to run seven kilometers in 42 minutes or six minutes per kilometer. It’s neither an overly fast pace nor a pace to feel discouraged. I’ve completed many runs like this before; however, the last one–to the best of memory–was much earlier this year. For this particular run, my focus was more on breathing, stride, and splits as a way to control all other variables. Woot woot, mission complete!

To be honest, with the stress of the examination schedule and self-management of time and emotions at school and at home, we–students and teachers–were extremely busy. It’s important to check in by doing something awesome for yourself, about yourself, and by yourself. As I write this, I realize that is exactly what I just did! My results were positive and everyone should expect positive results soon. (It’s all about when mindset and a focus on foundational skills come together.)

Last but not least, time waits for no one; this is such an important part of running: one foot in front of the other over and over and over again. With that same thinking and believe it or not, there are only 22 weeks left for students in PYP (primary) before they move to MYP (secondary)! [audible gasp] In the meantime, let’s enjoy the time that we have 🙂 Please click the link below to see the photos and video snippets from this week–mostly Sports Day: G6 W16 in Pictures.

School Events – Important Dates

  • Winter Break (or Three-Week Weekend) = Friday, December 15, 2023 – Saturday, January 6, 2024
  • School Resumption = Sunday, January 7, 2024

Home Learning – aka Homework

Over break, students might consider engaging in short, sweet, and simple learning activities. For example, BrainPop, Britannica, epic!, etc. work for reading and a journal works well for writing. Accordingly, https://maths.prototec.co.nz/ works well for a review of basic operations and  https://www.khanacademy.org/ works well for a review of concepts.

Literacy Summary

This week, all students completed a PROBE reading assessment and a post on-demand assessment in writing. Additionally, some students required a bit more time to update SeeSaw Activity posts or portfolio reflections.

Numeracy Summary

This week, students used visual representations and models to deepen their understanding of division of fractions by fractions.

UoI Summary

This week, all students reached out to one or more faculty members to invite them to be mentors for Exhibition. As all groups have decided on their central idea and are finessing their lines of inquiry, students are slowly yet surely demonstrating more agency to direct their learning themselves.
