This week in Grade 8 we started going deeper into our exploration of how human connections inform identity. The central idea is “Our personal and extended family connections give meaning and a sense of purpose to our unique identities and relationships”. The AtL’s we will use to support our investigation are Communication and Research.
A new word and concept we began exploring this week was Genealogy, the science of researching and documenting family histories. This weekend students will hopefully engage in conversations with family members and collect a family story. We are using Family Photographs to help us start the conversation and jog family memories. Students will try to find out what the oldest family photograph in their home is, and what is the story behind it. This will lay the foundation for family tree research next week and a challenge to see how far back students can trace their heritage.
