I definitely run with a hop in my step due to the better weather and a healthy body. As I write this, I realize that it’s so very important to value times when we experience favorable weather in Oman to the point that we do what we love. Sure, sure, sure … I run and you don’t so the connection is not obvious. Perhaps you’re not as athletically inclined as I am. Perhaps you’re a bit more social and you plan events with family and friends. This time of year provides so many more choices: brunch with serving inside and seating outside, lazy afternoon coffee on a veranda with an expansive view, outdoor barbeque from the evening into the night, and so on.
In the same way, it’s important (rather, essential) that Mr. Nicholson and I add value to students’ learning based on what works. Of course, we’re not as dependent on the weather for optimum conditions; however, life sometimes gets in the way of our schedules and we must adjust. Accordingly, we maximize our time through team teaching, differentiated groupings, and agency based on what we need to achieve in the time that we have. More than anything–and related to why we had a brief celebration this week, we should be kind. Please take a look at G6 W12 in pictures for more information, conversation starters with your child(ren), or reflection.
School Events – Important Dates
Please be reminded that next Wednesday and Thursday, November 22-23, 2023 Oman’s 53rd National Day will be observed. This means that next week will be a short week with a long weekend afterwards. ABIS–as a community, will celebrate National Day, on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at 8:00 AM with a flag raising ceremony in the Mazoon with Oman’s national anthem.
Literacy Summary
This week, students completed (or nearly completed) a book that they chose for social issues book clubs with notes about character traits or power and they developed and published a literary essay using the hamburger model to frame writing a paragraph or the entire essay. [NOTE: It’s this week’s feature image too.] Please be reminded to check out SeeSaw for posts in both reading and writing.
Numeracy Summary
This week, students worked on solving word problems moving from fractions to decimals and, then, percentages using different visual representations. Again, please see any of this week’s Daily Check-ins for more details and talk with your child(ren) about their learning.
UoI Summary
This week, students developed their understanding of what it means to be a digital citizen as well as the rights and responsibilities therein as an ABIS student. Students also completed a protocol to arrange groupings for their next mini-project, which is research into creating a timeline of technological advances in the twentieth century.
