We had a fun week back at school. We listened to the story of the Gingerbread Man, learning that stories can have fun, repetitive parts that we can say with our teacher. Children are quick to hear and recognize repeated phrases and patterns in stories, and that’s why they enjoy having the same stories read to them. It allows them to anticipate words or phrases and say them aloud, giving them. We also looked at the characters in the story, like the fox and the Gingerbread Man. The students had their favorite character and would often say I am the fox or I am the Gingerbread Man.
We started C/K E H R M D sounds in Jolly Phonics. This week, we focussed on the C, its sound, forming the letter, and blending words with the sound. We also made a cat with a very long tail. Our sight words for the week were I and have. We combined them with numbers and names of body parts to make simple sentences to read.
In Math, we continued to practice counting to 50. We practiced our bonds of six and used our number fans.
We started with our new unit, “Who We Are.” We introduced the students to Mat Mat. Mat Man is a classroom character that helps learners develop strong drawing and cognitive skills. Mat Man teaches body awareness drawing & pre-writing skills.
