Hello Families and friends,

Empathy happened to be our theme this week and we are concluding this week with a ‘Feel-good’ feeling. For photos from this week, please see this link.

What we did in Week 7

Math: Students are continuing to work on place value concepts. This week, they were exposed to the concept of rounding whole numbers to the 10, 100, 1000. Students are working at their paces; while some are strengthening their understanding of  rounding up to three-digit numbers to 10’s, some are moving on to bigger numbers and rounding to 10, 100, 1000 and so on.  Also, they explored a very helpful problem-solving strategy – organizing information in a table.

.   .

Integrated Language and UOI: Students read and watched inspiring stories of perseverance of two personalities – Sangeetha & Yusra Mardini, who led challenging lives. To deepen their understanding of these people’s lives, they ‘stepped in’ and empathized with their perception, understanding, thoughts and questions.  Our Read-Aloud was ‘Those shoes’, a book by Maribeth Boelts and we discussed empathy and being good friends. We brainstormed on describing a character inside and outside.

As always, please feel free to write to us if you have any questions or would like to seek clarification.

Worth reminding – 2 more weeks to go for the end of Term 1.

Have a lovely weekend.
