Year-to-Date: 1,505; September 2023: 140.6; Last Week: 39.7

Just as the weather has shifted so has my motivation (and desire) to run. For example, I completed a workout early this week by running a kilometer in between a set of bodyweight exercises, I ran two sets of two and half kilometers with a kilometer of active recovery in between, and I ran until I just couldn’t a few days ago. The shift from walking to trotting to jogging–and now–to running was sudden.

As the past few weeks have ended suddenly (due to the shorter weeks), learning has shifted too. We’re nearly finished with the first half of a mathematics module and we’re definitely nearing the end of time scheduled for the first trans-disciplinary (i.e., reading and writing with unit of inquiry) unit of this school year. There will be another shift in a few weeks for a deep dive into Exhibition: group dynamics, SDGs, topics of interest, central ideas, lines of inquiry, etc. This is all to say that everyone has finished getting “back to school”. We had a great sixth week shifting to become more self-directed in our learning and please use the following link for photographs: Grade 6 in Pictures W6.

Essential Agreements

Throughout the first unit of inquiry, G6 teachers have been explicitly teaching self-management skills. As a best teaching practice, we, Glen and I, are providing opportunities for students to reflect on their behavior rather than enforcing or imposing consequences. As part and parcel of this learning expectation, please share a conversation about what our essential agreements actually mean with details about real-world examples and non-examples.

Home Learning – aka Homework

Thank you for your continued support to help our students take complete and total responsibility for their learning at home. Please see details to personalize learning each day through the “Daily Check-in”. I’ll include a bit of recap for the learning objective from each lesson and ideas to extend learning at home.

SeeSaw

Students will begin using SeeSaw as the platform to showcase and reflect on their learning up until Exhibition. Please  be reminded that SeeSaw posts are on a developmental continuum, they are a work in progress, and they will be reviewed weekly as part of reflection on learning an assessment as learning.

School Events – Important Dates

Primary and Secondary Coffee Mornings are scheduled in a few weeks. In the meantime, next week will be quite bland in comparison to previous ones.
