Dear parents,
The week has concluded on a positive note, thanks to a successful turnout of parents visiting their child’s’ teachers last night. We intend to organize more of these events throughout the year, providing opportunities for parents to engage with teachers. A heartfelt thank you to all those who attended.
I’m delighted to inform you that the Parent Committee convened its first meeting of the new academic year this week. The Parent Committee consists of Jameel Shakeel (Chairperson), Ahmed Aykour, Afshan Shaikh, Roberta Batista, Dr Hanifa Al Qasmi, Machteld Van Der Slot, Sarah Umar and Zekeriyya Dagdas.
The Parent Committee scope of responsibilities are as follows:
- Act as a supporting body to the school to advise, explore and help implement ways for improvement of ABIS including the realization of the mission and vision, structural, policies, and rules. Note that the PC is not a decision-making or rules/policies changing body.
- Involve parents in the school community through supporting and assisting in organising activities and events to foster parent engagement and student identification with the school, and that contribute to a good atmosphere at the school.
- Point of contact for parents about wider school topics (but not on an individual basis). Any matter that deals with the individual needs of children must be directed to the concerned teacher or ABIS leaders. The PC will not be able to help any individual academic issues.
- Support marketing efforts to attract more students and create awareness about ABIS.
- Parent Committee members are available for contact by phone. For example, for new parents that have specific questions or others who prefer a personal contact instead of a centralized e-mail.
- Collaborate with the Student Council to organise events and activities that significantly involve the school community and/or have an impact on the local community.
You may have observed that our main swimming pool is presently undergoing repairs. The pool company is diligently testing the seals to rectify water leakage and we anticipate having a definitive timeline for the repairs by next week. Your patience during this process is greatly appreciated, and we are dedicated to achieving a positive resolution.
Finally, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Jorge Hidalgo, who devoted extensive hours over the summer break to help us devise a solution for our pool filtration system. Thanks to his dedicated efforts and professional expertise, we now have a new and improved filtration system in place. Thank you Jorge!
