Year-to-Date: 1,314; August 2023: 137.2; Last Week: 43.2

Sometimes continuity works; for example, my yearly distance goal was 2,000 kilometers broken down into monthly goals and short-term or weekly goals. July was epic with over 200 kilometers and four half-marathons up, down, and around a lot of my favorite mountains in Japan. Sometimes continuity doesn’t work and resetting expectations, including goals, is in order. One way to keep accountable was to keep this dialogue going as part of my weekly post. It was an essential agreement (or pact) that I made to myself and my audience.

In the same way G6 students created their essential agreements for this school year. These are pacts that will serve us each and every day. As I told the students once we had settled on the five agreements, I was proud of their thought work, their approach to learning, and the many ways that they raised the level of rigor, including personal and collective expectations. This is all to say that we had an extremely productive week by reestablishing our learning community in our shared learning space. Please use the following link for details: G6 in Pictures W1.

Home Learning – aka Homework

During the first week of school, Mr. Nicholson and I focused on reestablishing connections to tried and true learning platforms, such as Prodigy Math, epic!, and so on. From next week, we will send home a notebook dedicated just to home learning. As always, additional suggestions will be sent through a daily check-in.

Uniforms

Please ensure your child is prepared in school uniforms as per the school handbooks. Please be reminded that students will need to be sun smart and bring a hat as well as a water bottle each day. Please encourage your child to remember to charge their ipad each night before bringing it to school. The first week will be PE, which means that students need a kit, if necessary on those days. Details will be forthcoming about when swim lessons start.
