Dear Parents and Students,
Good afternoon and Happy Thursday.
Students have had a big week this week with our amazing school concert and lots of finishing off as we head into the last week of the academic year next week.
Unit of Inquiry & Language: As part of our unit, this week students exhibited their ‘How We Express Ourselves Art’ works in the LC3 Atrium for all to see. If you were unable to make it to see these, they are, quite simply, fantastic. Students have worked hard on these and they are visually stunning pieces. Please see below for a digital copy of some of this art. Students also continued to read, make connections with and discuss our class book “A long walk to water’. Students also visited the school kitchen as part of our unit, working in teams to create a dish of their choice as part of expressing themselves creatively through food. Again, please see our photo page to see our students ‘cooking up a storm’.
Mathematics: For math this week students have been working on developing a deeper understanding of shape and space. They have drawn, made and analysed the attributes of different polyhedra and have worked to visually represent in a creative way, their understanding of Translation, reflection, rotation and tessellation in maths. Please see some examples of this in our photo files for this week. Students were also recognised for completing their marking for their measurement ‘scavenger hunt’ from last week. Well done to everyone because this was a great learning engagement with positive results. Please talk with your children about this to get more information. I know they will be happy to share with you about this.
How you can help at home: Please talk about measurement with your children at home. This includes, filling up the car, baking, how hot it is outside, travel times, weights and distances and so on. This adds authentic context and a reason for learning about measurement. Please also help your children use their Nessy, RAZ kids, Epic and Prodigy accounts for numeracy and literacy practice as part of their homework.
