Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to our review of week 36. Two weeks to go until the end of our academic year. Please see below for a collage and click the link below for the photos from this week:
Unit of Inquiry & Language:
This week students focused on their ‘How We Express Ourselves’ unit of inquiry by researching an artist of their choice to find a piece of visual art that ‘spoke to them’. They were then asked to critique this piece and write about the artist as well as the piece saying what they either liked or did not like about it at the same time mentioning how the art piece was made, what the material was that was used to make it, the motivation or message behind the piece and so on. Students also learned about ‘DeepFake’’AI completing a compass points exercise about this. The students also learnt about “Click bait’ online as a form of enticement and visual art designed to encourage ‘clicks’ on the internet. This was very interesting. We also looked at movie posters and developed an understanding of the elements that make up one – title, tag line, actors, credits, release date, colour scheme, visual and technical info. Students have started designing a creative poster of their own and they will present this next week explaining why they chose specific images and text to influence the audience. I am sure that if you ask them they will be only too happy to share some of their learning with you.
Upcoming events/notices:
- 14 Jun – Music/Band Concert whole school 05:00 – 06:30 PM
- 14 Jun – Last round of ASA
- 20 Jun – Reports issued electronically
- 22 Jun – Last working day of the year
Maths:
This week students completed work on calculating the perimeter and area of regular and irregular shapes using standard measures. They also completed a ‘scavenger hunt’ challenge where they had to find items that were either a certain length or weight or height using a conversion formula from a standard measurement unit. Students seemed to enjoy this problem solving challenge.
How you can help at home:
Please talk about measurement with your children at home. This includes, filling up the car, baking, how hot it is outside, travel times, weights and distances and so on. This adds authentic context and a reason for learning about measurement. Please also help your children use their Nessy, RAZ kids, Epic and Prodigy accounts for numeracy and literacy practice as part of their homework.
Please have a look at your child’s google drive on their ipad for digital copies of this week’s learning.

Homework
This week for homework, students have continued their daily reading, Math basic facts practice, Nessy/ RAZ/ Epic as well as revision for their exams.
As always, spending time with your children at home reading, writing and playing maths games is a very valuable shared learning time. As in our previous notice, students will be able to share some of their learning with you through their ‘Take home folder’ or their google classroom links so please do talk with them about this to see what they have been working on.
Worth repeating:
Thank you.
As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us
Sincere regards,
