Please see below for notices and a link to view a review of week 14.

Grade 6 Week 14 in pictures:2022 2023

Integrated Unit of Inquiry

This week students continued tuning in to their PYP exhibition in small groups by working on identifying the central idea for their inquiries. This is a key stage in the process that gives plenty of opportunity for deep and meaningful conversation on the topic. This is a very important part of the process which we will continue next week. At the same time, we are finalising our ‘How The World Works’ Unit on Flight and scientific innovation. For this, students worked on designing their PET bottle rocket and worked towards completing their inquiry into the relationship between physics and flight including the use of thrust to keep ‘heavier than air objects’ airborne.

Language

In our reading groups this week, we started with a new levelled reader. Students have improved in making inferences and predictions about the texts by looking at the book covers and visual clues. In writing, we looked at what a complete statement looks like and applied this understanding in reasoning whether or not a given statement can be considered a central idea.

Mathematics

This week students continued to work on developing their skills with number and multiplication facts as well as working on solving math challenges presented in the form of word problems. This was a little tricky for them however they were able to use their translanguaging skills to understand the problems and then work together collaboratively to solve these. Well done 🙂

Thank you.
