Dear Families,

Well, this was certainly a very busy week for ABIS students. We had 2 very successful and energetic Celebration of the Arts evenings. Ms. Sanaa showcased her Grade 1-5 students’ talents with beautiful displays of visual art: drawings, paintings and sculptures were admired by everyone.  Mr. Peter let the Grade 1&2 and 3-5 students shine onstage with a variety of song, rhythm, dance and instrumental pieces, and both the performers and the audience enjoyed the energy of the evening.  Thank you very much to all the parents who attended to support learning in the Arts.

We also had two very active mornings, as our PE teachers, Ms. Dorothy and Mr. Fernando, ran Sports Days for grades K-4 and again for grades 5-12.  We had lots of parents show up to cheer the students on, which was fantastic.  The day was extremely well organized and successful; all the children had so much fun.  For many, it was the first event of this kind, and they did very well.

Kindergarten1 and 2 families are invited to the Celebration of Learning next week in the ECC building from 8-10am.  Students will guide their parents around some learning stations and teach them what a morning in kindergarten is like.  Morning tea and coffee will be provided for parents to socialize after the learning rotations.  We look forward to seeing all of you that day.

We are beginning to plan our Oman Week activities, which will mostly be held during the week of Feb. 12-16.  Upper Primary families will have received information about the overnight trips planned this week.  If your child is in Grades 4, 5 or 6 and you did not receive any information via email this week, please contact the school and let us know because it means we do not have the correct email address on file for you.  Other grades are planning day trips to different locations, and you will receive details and permission slips closer to the dates.  During the week, we will be hold different special activities on campus and are investigating different options for special guests.  If you have any ideas and/or connections, please speak to me, Mr. Cooper, Ms. Eiman or Ms. Zuweina.  We want the week to be special and meaningful for the students.

It is hard to believe that there is only one school week left in 2022.  The first part of our year has passed quickly, and already the students have made so much growth and progress.  We are enhancing our school community with each special event, and students are happily learning in collaborative groups and playing together in After School Activities. It’s been a wonderful year together so far.

Winter Break is from Dec. 16, 2022 – Jan. 7, 2023 inclusive.  Please mark your calendars in advance for Jan. 18.  During our Parent Coffee Morning we will review what the Primary Years Program (PYP) is with our PYP Coordinator Matthew Richmond.  We would like lots of parents to be in attendance.

Enjoy your weekend.  Maeve
