Homework
As students continue to develop their self management and independence skills in this area, thank you for your continued support. Please remember to sight and sign your children’s homework books before they come back to school every Thursday morning.
Reading and writing
This week learners have continued to develop their research and writing skills by working to complete their information reports. Congratulations to them for all of the effort they have put into these, we are looking forward to sharing them.
Mathematics
This week in Math, students have continued to work on developing their reasoning and number skills. Students used the screen recording feature on Seesaw to make their thinking visible when solving math problems related to place value. Explaining our thinking in math has been a challenging task and the students are beginning to develop this skill. Please see their Seesaw journal for these posts.
Integrated UOI
This week we really started getting into our unit on flight and how it has inspired innovation. Students researched biomimicry and made slideshow presentations giving examples. The idea is to connect this to how flying objects in nature have inspired scientific investigation, innovation and man-made flight. We still have not decided what flying really is because there are things that glide and slowly decend back to earth, things that go up and come back down as well as things that go up and never have to come back down and there are things that are naturally aspirated versus those that require some kind of external powersource. Soon, we will be trying out scientific approaches to experiment – making hypotheses, testing different variables and making inferences. This is a great unit for promoting critical thinking skills as well as scientific conversation and we look forward to doing more when we come back after the break.
School re-opens on Nov 06, Sunday.
Happy Holidays until then.
Things to remember when coming back to school:
- Swimming for girls on Sundays, and for boys on Tuesday. Girls are doing PE. Girls swim on Mondays, Boys swim on Thursdays.
