Dear Parents and Students,

I hope these few words find you well.  It is hard to believe but yes another busy week has come and gone.

Please see below for a review of the week in pictures:

Homework

With this week being a short week we will extend our homework for another week and work to complete the mini inquiry as part of our flight unit by Thursday of next week. Thank you for checking and signing homework books because this shows the importance of completing activities at home to consolidate learning. This also gives you an insight into your children’s lives as students.

Reading and writing

During this week learners have continued to work on developing reading and writing skills. We also looked at the features of and practised writing an informational report.

Mathematics

This week in Math, students worked hard on real life problem solving. Among other things this included logistics around camp including budget, researching restaurants,  negotiating menus and finalising orders for their meal during their camp experience. This was a great authentic experience of how math is all around us and just how important it is to be good at math.

Integrated UOI

This week we have begun our new unit with the central idea that “Flight Inspires Scientific Innovation”. One of the things that students completed this week was a creative title page in their unit of inquiry books for this unit. As part of homework students also completed a list of things that they believe are able to ‘Fly’. This will serve as a great discussion starter next week when we look at definitions and what flying actually is.

Please see the week 7 review in pictures above for samples of this work.

Overnight at School…

This week students completed a successful overnight camp here on campus at school where they enjoyed opportunities to develop their ATL skills. Photos of some of these events are in our Week in pictures review as mentioned above. This was an excellent learning opportunity where students not only learnt a lot but also enjoyed themselves as well. Thank you for your support in this. We look forward to other field trips and excursions later in the year as we work to contextualise our learning and make powerful connections.  Photos of some of these events are in our Week in pictures review as mentioned above.

For your information ATL skills are shared below in an infographic.
