Hello and Welcome to the new year G6
Ahlan Wa Sahlan, Kia Ora, Namaste and hello lovely people.
Welcome to G6 for the new year.
Our names are Mr. Nicholson, Miss Sri and Ms Maryam. We are pleased and excited to be the Grade 6 teaching team and your partners in learning this year.
A little bit about us 🙂
Ms Maryam: Hi, my name is Ms Maryam, it is nice to meet you all. I was the Grade 6 teaching Assistant last year and am happy to be so again this year. This is my 8th year here at ABIS and as a result I have had the pleasure of teaching some of our grade 6 students back when they were in Grade 2 🙂 I look forward to this year being an amazing year of fun, love, care and learning.
Miss Sri: I am Srikala Raghuraman and I will be the Homeroom Teacher for Grade 6R. This is my 18th year of teaching and I am absolutely thrilled to start at ABIS, with 32 new shining stars in Grade 6. I am brand new to Oman and I’m thankful for all the support and hospitality I’ve been receiving here since the past couple of weeks. I taught in Fiji, the paradise island, before moving to Oman. I have had the lovely opportunity to work with a range of mixed age groups from Montessori years through high school in India, Indonesia and Fiji. This year, I would like to partner with my students in developing good work habits, positive attitude towards others, leadership skills, agency in learning, confidence and courage to express oneself and ask questions. I believe that with unrestrained support from teachers, parents and peers, children could really go far.
Mr Nicholson:I am the homeroom teacher for Grade 6N this year. This is my second year here at ABIS. I come to you with my wife Pinar and two children. I am originally from New Zealand and have been working internationally for many years, most recently in an international school in Kyiv, Ukraine where in winter it can get colder than minus twenty degrees. I do love the snow but I am also really enjoying the warmer weather and opportunity to be out of doors in Sohar and Oman. Prior to Kyiv, I have worked in New Zealand, Vietnam, Turkey and Africa and have travelled extensively.
We look forward to working together and developing our learning community this year.
Health and Safety
Here at ABIS we take great care of those in our care and as such take the Health and safety of our learning community very seriously. Though we are currently moving towards normalcy in relation to Covid mitigation measures, if your child is showing any symptoms of illness please do err on the side of caution when deciding whether they should attend school that day. Thank you.

Getting to Know your Child – Survey
Please take the time to complete a confidential form to help us get to know your children better and to meet their individual needs this year. Please do this by Thursday the 1st of September. Feel free to continue this or contact us via email if you feel there is anything else you would like us to be aware of.

Home learning/ Homework:
In grade 6 the expectation is that learners will complete one hour of homelearning daily from Sunday through Wednesday.
Home learning in Primary is an extension of the learning that has happened in class and may take on different forms: writing, projects, problem solving, creating presentations or representations of ideas in different ways. It will vary depending on the units of inquiry being studied at the time however will always be clearly communicated to you through weekly communications.
Daily reading is always included in the home learning plan.
Learning tools:
Please ensure your child has all they need each day at school and are ready to learn. School will provide basic stationary requirements however please be reminded that students will need to be sun smart and bring a hat as well as a water bottle each day. Also, remember to send their ipads. On days where students have PSPE or swimming, students will need appropriate attire to fully participate in learning engagements.
